Appraisal System in TCS

Hi Guys,Here is a short description about  appraisal system in TCS.

This document will be really helpful to all TCS 2013 and seniors out here who just completed their ILP!!!!

To be precise, There are 2 appraisals in TCS

1. H1 appraisal-- April to September (6 months duration)
2. H2 apprisal-- September to March (again 6 months)

The rating will vary from 2 to 5. Which inturn decides the band (A,B,C,D).

The process that will be done in appraisal systems:

1. Your managers will be preparing goals for you.
That goals will contain both technical (Ur technical knowledge) and management wise (communication skills) and they will be asking you guys to fill the rating and give reasons why u require that rating.

2. Then you will be filling it.

3. Followed by that ur manager will be giving his views, face to face discussion with u and his rating.

4. Finally u will be receiving ur rating and band.

Factors which decides the band:

1. Your performance in that 6 months.
2. Your flexibility, communication with clients, ur dressing sense etc.
3. Our involvement with TCS like participating in any events organised by TCS showcasing your performance.
4. Most important, Your frequency with Project manager.

There are many other factors as well. let me explain all this ins hort.

1. Your performance in that 6 months.

This is the most vital thing which will be considered. Because U will be directly in competition with senior guys. And it needs lots of hard work.
And at the end you must show the whole team that you have worked enough in this 6 months in order to prove that u need a good rating.

Lots of politics will be there. But hardwork never fails.

2. Your flexibility, communication with clients, ur dressing sense etc.

Initially as said above the goal sheet will contain all this. And weightage will be given for each..
This also matters.

Since the manager will be deciding the rating at alast.. He will decide in such a way that he looks into ur performance..

3. Our involvement with TCS like participating in any events organised by TCS showcasing your performance.

As i told you, The unique you are, the impact will be shown in ur project.
Most of the guys will be only dealing with their clients (project they work). They have less time to deal with activities TCS conducts.

if we perform such tasks organised by TCS, that will also play a vital role.

4. Most important, Your frequency with Project manager:

Just want to be more specific with this point.
Politics will play a vital role during this appraisal process. Seniors will be highly prefered for A and B bands.
More hardwork you show, at the end we get only C or sometimes D band which is the least.

Try to have a good rapport with your project manager.
Fate is though you work hard, if there is no rapport, i fear the career for u in IT company will be less in scope.

This is now only with TCS but also with other companies.

Important things that should to kept in mind:

1. No expectations; No disappointments. very true quote and of course my favourite one :D :D

2. Work for your satisfaction, dont work for money. Learn how much u can :) very important..

3. For a non CS guy in TCS, I bet their life in TCS will be only till bond (2 years). After that either they will move for higher studies or marriage (Girls).
My personal experience :D

4. First year in TCS will be llttle tough. All say TCS is Govt company. But its not. if ur in TCS after 5-6 years moving to managerial role, then its like government company

5. Have good rapport with Project manger.

6. Try to do certifications. You can reimberse the amount also if u had done with the stream where u are working..

7. According to me IT industry is bad.. But i enjoy it.. Because i wanted to enjoy life.. Its all in ur hands :) simple!!!!

Just to be precise, I guess u get some idea abou this process!!!!

Enjoy life and have an awesoem future!!!!

Wishing personally all u guys best luck for future in TCS :) :)

Any doubts ask me!!!!!

Accomodation at TCS ILP

TCS accommodation Provided.. Yes/No and other issues
Found Many People getting confused abt the Accommodation provided by TCS. Here’s something that can help you out. Refer the 2nd page of ur JL [4th para I guess] which has one of these 3 lines.

1)Accommodation would be arranged by TCSL at the ILP Centres and the rent towards the same would be deducted from your HRA. If the second phase of ILP happens at the base branch to which you are allocated, accommodation would not be arranged by TCSL. Travel expenses to the location of ILP will not be reimbursed
-> U are surely going to get accommodation for the entire 3 months of ILP. But Ur Post ILP location is in suspense :P ILP is for 3 months but ASE-Trainee designation stays for 1 year.. so the remaining 9 months are termed as second phase.. Accommodation would be provided only for 3 months.. but not for the remaining 9 months of the year irrespective of ur post ILP location whether it is the same as ur ILP or not :)

2)Your ILP location would be the same as your base branch and hence ILP would be conducted as a non-residential program at this location. You are advised to make own arrangements for accommodation and transport at the training location. Travel expenses to the location of ILP will not be reimbursed
->Ur ILP location would be ur Post ILP and hence no accommodation would be provided at the location. If u are not a localite or have no relatives at that place.. Try pooling friends with similar JL and rent a room for a long duration :)

3) Your ILP location would be the same as your base branch as far as possible and hence ILP would be conducted as a non-residential program at this location. You are advised to make own arrangements for accommodation and transport at the training location. Travel expenses to the location of ILP will not be reimbursed.
->99% chances to get the ILP location as Base Branch. 1% is reserved by TCS to surprise you ;) :P So for the time being.. Get into a PG/Hostel for a span of 3 months and By the time u get to know ur Post ILP.. U can decide base on that.. U’ll have some good friends made at that place and also have a good idea abt the city by then and u can arrange for ur accommodation if the Post ILP is at the same place :)

Few more points worth mentioning
* If you have Line1 in ur JL.. TCS would deduct ur HRA irrespective of u using the accommodation they provided. It is mandatory to stay in the accommodation provided by TCS for people with JLs with line 1.
*If u dont want to stay at the accommodation provided by TCS, U have to take permission from Corresponding ILP co-ordinator and It is Really very very tough as they generally dont agree without a solid and genuine reason. But even if the permission is granted the deduction of HRA would be the same as It is mistake of ‘you’ for not utilising a facility provided by TCS.
*TCS does not provide accommodation to the parents/any1 accompanying you who come along with u.. And Yes.. They wont do that even for 2 days.
*U can come to the ILP 2 days before the start of ILP and they’ll provide u with the accommodation [only for the recruit but not the family of recruit]
*Even if the accommodation is provided by TCS.. The travel expenses to travel from Accommodation to ILP center are to be beared by the recruit.

NSR process step by step

Hi guys,

i think this is the best doc available on NSR...

NSR Registration Steps

A very detailed stepwise guide to NSR (national skills registry)

So here the detailed steps:

1. Use IE (Internet Explorer) for this National Skills Registry. Although I am not an admirer of IE (in fact I don't like to use IE - Firefox is always better), IE is better in this case (and I strongly suggest to use IE here).
2. Go to https://nationalskillsregistry.com/

If any error given by the internet explorer then add the national skill registry site as an exception

3. When asked "This page contains both secure and non-secure items: Do you want to display the non-secure items?" choose YES

4. Almost at the middle see for the "NEW USER?" go to the "Register Now" (provided you are registering for the first time or else "Complete your Registration" (provided you already filled up some details and have to fill the rest).

5. After you click "Register Now" a new pop-up window comes (enable pop-up windows for this site)https://nationalskillsregistry.com/nasscom/pageflows/itp/itpRegistration/begin.do

6. Read the instructions and at the bottom with "I Agree" selected, click "Submit"

7. Select NSR Registration Requested By “My Future Employer “(You can always change the details later, you don't need to select anything right now .later u can edit your profile and u can give your employee ID).

8. Then in the personal information fill up the relevant details. Mother's maiden name means "Surname that she used before she was married". You don't need to write the full name, only surname is required.

9. Fill up the present address block. Your NSR IT Card will be delivered to this address or else the permanent address (you can choose that later in the steps), so fill it up carefully.

10. Fill up the immediate previous address (if any). If you stayed at your present address for less than 1 year, then only you need to fill up this block else this block cannot be filled up.

11. Permanent Address Block. If it's the same as the present address then the present address will be reflected back in this block else you need to fill up the permanent address.

12. Other Personal Information: Country code for India is 91 (Don't write + or 0, only the country code). If you don't know your country code then you can find it here:http://www.kropla.com/dialcode.htm. Then write state code i.e. the STD code (Example. For Kolkata it is 33) and then the phone number. For you area's STD code look here:http://www.indiapages.in/STDCodes.htm

For Mobile Phones only ISD + Your Mobile No. (ex. 91xxxxxxxxxx)

13. Enter your E-mail ID carefully because you IT-PIN will be initially sent to your email.

14. If you have Passport and/or PAN enter the details, else leave the fields blank.

15. Authentication part is the next one. Fill it up. Login Id can be anything you wish (more than 5 letters). There are 2 passwords Login and Transaction. Password Rules are given there, read that and then set the passwords (passwords cannot start with a number, it must contain one uppercase and one lowercase letter and a number; minimum length is 8 characters and maximum is 15 characters). Two passwords cannot be same. In short your passwords should be strong passwords.

16. Then press "save and continue".

17. Here you will get your Acknowledgment number. Write it down or note it.

18. Then you will have to fill up the education details. If you don't have any professional certificates, leave them blank. (Remember you can always change then later, so don't worry).

19. If you are not currently employed, then when asked for "Presently employed"... choose "No" (this is what I did because I am a fresher). This will make all the fields inactivate and you can proceed. Else fill up the relevant details. (Again if you wish you can always change these things later).

20. Choose the card delivery address.

21. Click on "Submit and View".

22. The details entered by you will be displayed in a single page. Here you can either modify them (in case of errors or if you wish to add something extra) or leave them as they are after re-checking them.

23. Then click on "Continue your registration by doing the payment".

24. Registration amount will be displayed and you have to choose the payment mode.

25. You can either pay online or at the location of POS (Offices assigned by NASSCOM).https://nationalskillsregistry.com/pos-details-register.htm

I am no-one to suggest anything but still I think payment at POS is a good option because you have to go there to submit your fingerprints, so then you can also pay the fees along with your fingerprints. You can pay by either cash or DD.

26. Now you will get your ITP Web Registration Acknowledgement Form

27. Print the (ITP Web Registration Acknowledgement Form). If you don't have a printer with you now right now, then you can always enter your NSR account by going to "New User?" to "Complete your Registration" by entering the Acknowledgment Number & Password and from there on get this acknowledgment form and print it.

28. Then with your photo attached and signature in the form, go to a POS (Point Of Service) with the fees and a Photo identity [Voter's Id card/Passport/Driving License/Bank Pass Book (with Photo)/College ID card (not more than 1 year old)/PAN card/Employment Identity Card] within 50 days of completing the online registration. The validity of the acknowledgment form is also mentioned in the form itself.

29. At POS first of all register your personal details on their registry file. Then give Rs331 along with the printed form. Show your identity proof. Submit your finger print. The whole process takes about 5-7 minutes.

30. After paying the fees and fingerprints, you will get your ITPIN in a short duration. It will be sent to your email id (the one you provided) along with the e-card.

31. Submit your ITPN number on your next step tcs portal (click the NSR link).Use internet explorer only

32. You will get your physical e-card within 20-30 days. You can check the card status also.

Happy NSR registration!

Waiting of Joining Letter .

A very Good Evening to all my dear frds
I was thinking to write something for all of U since a long time but due to some project work , i was on a tour and didn't get the opportunity to have a conversation with u all... I went through many posts in the group and finally came with just one conclusion - "JOINING LETTER" .. Let me clear all of u that if TCS recruited U , u vl definitely get your "JL" , now the question arises "WHEN" ??
There is a proper format in which we deliver the JLs and Joining date , last month i also worked for u guys in "learning and development team" for scheduling the dates in a proper format ... Mainly we have 6-7 ILP centres in which we can accommodate around 800 folks at one time , one time means - for around long 3 months.. The guys from NITs and Top ranking colleges got their JLs and their classes were started .

Asap they will get their release and go to their "base location" , the B grade collegs guys enter into the premises of ILP , and at the same time , U vl start getting your JL , and it will be around in the month of november , "end of november" .. Then U vl get your exact date and according U vl get "aspire" to brush up your basics ..

So the conclusion is that You'll get your JL date by end of november , and the date may vary from 3rd of December upto June 2014 (Worst Scenario) .. that is purely depend on your luck , college ranking and the place U opted for in your priority list ..
To sab baato ki 1 baat , ki abhi ap logo ki joining aane me waqt hai , aur ho sakta hai wo waqt sirf 2 mahine ka ho , ya ho sakta hai 6 mahine ka , behtar yahi hai ki hum 6 mahine tak roz us din ka intejar karne ki jagah par , us din aur uske aage ki jindagi ko behtar banane ke liye kuch accha prayas kare , TCS respects individuality , it means kuch aisa kare jo apko ek alag pehchan de .. Try to be Unique in any sense , and TCS respects and care uniqueness , ofcousrse uniqueness must be in a positive way .... Kuch sikhiye , chahe wo music ho , khana banana ho , driving ho , guitar ho , unix ho , java ho .. ya jo bhi apko pasand ho .. the thing which bring a feeling of estacsy within U ..
Ye samay to nikalna hi hai , kyu na har roz sirf JL ki baat na karte hue kisi acche topic par baat ki jaaye , kisi chiz ka certification kar liya jaaye , kuch bhi aisa sikha jaaye jo apko ek alag pehchan de , kuch aisa kiya jaaye jiske jariye aap TCS ko aage chal ka represent kar paaye , chahe wo Badminton ho , cricket ho , chess ho , koi foreign language ho , anything.....

Finally U can drop your doubts at my inbox , I vl come to U asap , and sach batau - "to jee lo in palo ko , jo ghar par bitane ko mil rahe hai apne maa-papa ke saath , kyunki jeevan me ye mauke fir pata nahi kab aaye .. 2-3 din ki chutti ke liye bhi 4 jagah apply karna padega ... bas ye palo ko aise jina ki aane waale pure jeevan me khush rah sako ki humne apne mata-pita ki aankho me ek garv dekha tha ki unka beta /beti is going to be a part of "TCS" and most importantly part of "THE TATA GROUP" ...

Birthdate Certificate Queries at TCS

Birth certificate is a mandatory document, atleast after completion of ILP...If you dont have it, you can produce an affidavit on a 100 rs stamp paper. Only Municipal corporation birth certificate is accepted, i.e certificate issued by REGISTRAR of Births and Death Department...

This is what written in Joining Annexure1 PAGE 2 Clause(a) :

"In case you do not possess a birth certificate containing your name, date of birth and place of birth, you are needed to obtain an affidavit on a `100 stamp paper signed by a notary with these details. Since this is a temporary arrangement, you will be required to furnish the birth certificate before the completion of ILP. "

Now following cases may arise :

1.) If you DONT have BC : Apply as soon as possible... You'll have to Apply in Municipal Corporation.. BIRTH AFFIDAVIT is a TEMPORARY arrangement during ILP which you'll have to need to submit on DOJ and you should produce Original BC After completion of ILP...

2.) You have BC but in Local Language : You have to translate it in English. That will be sufficient.

3.) NAME IS MISSING : Either try to obtain a new birth certificate in English which has ur name and other details correctly shown,
OR
Make a birth affidavit on 20rs stamp... that may be the permanent solution, otherwise ILP people will tell you what to do, no worries...

FAQ FOR NEW ILP TRAINEES

Even though all my posts have covered every FAQ a new ILP Trainee might
ask, I’ve decided to make a post out of it, so that anyone can access this
easily! If I have missed any FAQ, feel free to comment and ask a question.

1. Do I really need to study for PAT?
Ans: Nopes. Not really. All facts about PAT aren’t true. It’s just a formality.
Your stream allocation and posting depends on the availability and
requirements. Chill!! You’re in ILP to learn those stuff!

2. What about Aspire?
Ans: Aspire seems boring as you have to fill in feedback and take quizzes but
it is recommended that you study the topics in Aspire thoroughly Or take
tuitions and courses to equip yourself with the necessary knowledge. You’re
in ILP for learning but this will be faster than most of you can handle! (Esp.
non-CS, non-IT) If you know one language, you’ll easily learn the others
here.

3. Is it true that girls get their first preference of location?
Ans: No, TCS expects you to be flexible. You might get your posting
anywhere! If you’re lucky, you’ll get your first preference.

4. How do I get my ILP rating?
Ans: The rating scale is from 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest). Maximum people get
3. People with extraordinarily outstanding performance (no exaggeration )
get 5. This is rare. Your ILP rating is shared with you on the second last or
last day of ILP. The rating is based on your technical performance, team
skills, communication skills etc . Only whole numbers are there, so you might
not be in a position to argue with a person who’s less competent than you
and has a rating of 3. Pro-activeness, consistent good performance, usage
of extra functionality, extra effort, good team handling increases your
chances of getting a 4. In the end, it all depends on your leads. Never feel
bad if you deserved a 4 and got 3. That is not the end of it! When you get a
project, you’ll again be rated. This time, you’ll have decimals.

5. What is ‘Remedial’ and what if I’m in it?
Ans: Remedial package is for those people who are identified as weak
performers or need extra help. It is conducted for every new thing that you
learn. Stream owners often conduct vivas and written tests to identify them.
You’ll have to come early, solve assignments, go through vivas and take
tests. Believe me, I’ve heard my batch mates in Remedial say that they’ve
actually learned something there!! It’s just ‘learning through pressure’.
Remedial isn’t something bad. You just have to cope up with it!

6. What is LAAP?

Ans: Okay, I don’t really remember the full form of this but this is something
really bad! People are put into LAAP when they can’t clear Remedials on
the 55th day and stream owner reviews/ exit interviews before the release.
It is an additional 15 days effort that you have to give in to prove that you
are ready to be deployed for a project. Otherwise, you have to see the HR!

7. On what basis is my performance evaluated?
Ans: Your performance is evaluated on a day to day basis. This means, you’ll
be continuously monitored by your tech lead and biz. skill lead to see if you
are following TCS values, dress code, able to grasp what is being taught,
active in answering (or at least trying) to answer questions, asking
questions, having consistent performance in diagnostics, using innovative
ideas or extra functionality in assignments/project, helping your team
members or pair with their work (team skills) etc .

8. What after ILP?
Ans: It is totally dependent on your base branch whether you will get
projects ASAP or will have to wait for months. If the idea of sitting idle
bothers you (commonly known as Bench), it’s wise to know which places are
getting the most number of projects by visiting the TCS site, asking trainees
who’ve already joined/completed ILP and then fill up your location preference.
It is highly likely that you will get that location as the demands are high.

9. What if I have to sit idle after going to the base branch?
Ans: If your base branch has no projects, it’s natural to get disappointed.
But, that’s the truth. Instead of lamenting and wasting time, revise what you
have studied during ILP, put them into use, learn new Frameworks like Strutts
2, AJAX, Hibernate, JPA etc By the time you get a project, you’ll be
proficient in multiple technologies! If you haven’t done a certification
before ILP, you can still do that during this time!

10. What type of Projects will be there and how will I get allocated?
Ans: You will be allocated to projects after you report to your base branch
(where you’ll be posted) after completing your ILP. You will get projects
according to your ISU or domain (ie. Banking and Financial Services, Telecom,
Insurance etc .). You will get to know your ISU during your ILP. Availability of
projects depend on where you’re posted and the requirements. There might
be a few months bench period where you’ll be sitting idle (with salary) but
that again depends on the projects in your ISU. 4-pointers or toppers in ILP
get allocated first, then the rest! You also have to appear for interviews
to get selected, in some cases!

11. I’m interested in Development so will I get Development Projects?
Ans: TCS is a support-based company, which means that you’ll be working in
the Maintenance or Change Request (CR) phase of the project most of the
time. As freshers, you cannot expect to get into development. You’ll get a
development project if you’re lucky! There’s no need to get disappointed as
your salary increment and rating will be decided by your performance and not
the type of project you work in!

12. Shall I say “Yes” to a project in UNIX if I am from JAVA stream?
Ans: Do not expect to get JAVA projects just coz you had JAVA Stream in
ILP. It might be the case that your base branch gets projects in otheropen in browser PRO version Are you a developer? Try out the HTML to PDF API pdfcrowd.com
technologies. If you get a Mainframe/Dot Net/Unix project, you’ll be
expected to learn it in a few weeks and get prepared. Never refuse a project,
especially if you have just completed ILP. Every project is equally good  and
will contribute to your experience.

13. What should be my expectations as a fresher in TCS?
Ans: There are many answers to this question. Ask yourself: Is software your
passion and you want to be in TCS and learn things for a few
years…..OR…..you’re aspiring for higher studies and TCS is just a stepping
stone for you! As a fresher, you have to be flexible and keep your
expectations low. Remember that you have to gain some experience!

14. Will certifications help and how?
Ans: Of course, it will! Take your choicest programming language and get a
certification. Certifications not only help you get the stream of your choice
but also help you get into projects easily after ILP.
JAVA– SCJP/ OCJP
DOT NET– Many certifications are there from Microsoft.
C++ — Unfortunately, there aren’t many or any available! But, if you like
C++, learn it thoroughly. Since C++ is taught with UNIX, you can also get a UNIX certification. Just do some research on the net.

15. Can I take a leave during ILP?
Ans: Unless you are sick or have a medical/ personal emergency at home
that requires your attention, you won’t be allowed to take leaves. One or
two days is the max you should take, if taking casual leaves during ILP. You’ll
miss classes and sessions and that won’t be good if you are a weak student.
If you can manage it in the weekend, then that is fine. Sit with your family
and try to plan events and weddings before or after ILP. If you take leaves
during ILP, you’ll be placed in another batch to complete your training. That
means, extra time. So, think about it!

Enjoy ILP. Post your questions in comments.

View on TCS Corporate life

First and foremost, I know many of u guys have this thought that TCS is like a  Goverment office. U can come anytime to office and go anytime back to home.

Please erase that from ur mind. Its not like as u feel. But we can tell this in a different way.

Those who wanna enjoy ur life will surely enjoy it :) :) What ever problems comes on ur way, Just accept it and enjoy the life!!!!!!
This will make ur life so happy.

I worked for TCS. Motorola is my client. I work on all shifts. I have loads of work to be done. But at the same time i enjoy my life :) :) So i am damn happy!!!

Why i am stressing this is, Everyone needs this :) :)
Because i have so many juniors who think they have married TCS or something and spend hell a lot of time on it straining their life.

Some of the important stuffs which i faced in this 2 year of corporate culture:

1. You have read in many papers that TCS is a company full of youths with age groups 22- 26.
The reason is as u all know that TCS has a bond of 2 years. So most of the guys Join TCS just to gain experience. 50% of the guys leave company (Including me) so that  they go for abroads to do MS, MBA.

2. The stuffs which they told in pre placement talk is all false. 99% tough!!!!! TCS donot sponsor for higher studies. Most of my colleagues have left company.

3. Corporate life is very bad. Especailly have to tell for girls. I am just staying in TCS just to complete my bond.
Girls and guys be very careful with the new friends u have got. be very careful.

Why i am stressing is, I had a good friend in my college (Don wanna tell the name). She was very good in my college. But the same girl i saw having a cigar and smoking outside ILP campus.

So IT life is very bad!!!!!! Tjhough it has some good things too.

4. Donot come with any expectation. Simple No expectations, No disappointments!! :) :)

5. Have a good rapport with HR. It will really help u a lot. TCS just doesnt stop with alone studying. There are many stuffs like TCS maitree (Sort of NGO). Its really awesome!!!!

6. First 2 years will play a vital role in ur career. There will lots of politics which will be going around there.
U might be having a tough life with loads of hectic works!!! But its all for good :)
Just accept it, show ur performance and enjoy life :) :)

7. have a very good set of friends there :) because having loads of friends @ TCS is like sitting in heaven :) :)

8. Girls Please donot work in projects which has night shifts. ( personal experience from my frds). Donnot chose such projects.

9. Committed ones who have their boy friend and girl friends there in TCS, U ppl will have an awesome time :) :) <3. Complete freedom!!!!:)
Guys who are single, dont worry.. u will also get one ;) ;)

10. Girls this info is only for u: Try to marry Guys who are working in TCS Onsite.U can enjoy with ur hubby in osite till he comes here. TCS will pay u ur basic salary!!!!!!

11. U will get discounts for all Tata products. But its very less. U can rather buy it without discount itself!!!!

If anything extra u wanna know ask me.. I will answer :) :)

TCS interview Experience

Hi Friends.
I am sharing my TCS Interview experience with u all, along with some tips and tricks, hoping it would help everyone to crack their upcoming interviews... :)

My Interview panel consisted of 3 panel members, since my TR,MR and HR round was punched in2 1...

(After 1st rounds, few were asked for 2nd or even 3rd rounds. after 1st round, either u are Accepted by everybody, rejected by everybody, or a conflict arises within the panel, when HR approves u,but Techie doesn't, or the other way round... in that case u may get a 2nd chance in proving yourself to another techie or HR. all up to them)

Heres an account of my Interview :

  • Entered the room, shook hands with all 3 panel members and took my seat. Techie guy started ask in questions first.
  • T: Which is the subject u most liked in ur last sem?Me: Sir, Software engg.
  • T: U mind if I ask u questions from Java?Me: Of course Sir. I'll try my best to answer your questions. :)
  • T: How is Java different from C?Me: Told
  • T: What is OOP? Me: Told

  • T : Explain these concepts u are using,that is Polymorphism,inheritance,data abstraction and Encapsulation?Me: Told
  • T: Which type of inheritance cannot be used in  java? how do u find an alternative to use it?Me: Told

(MR questions began from another panel member)
  • M: Imagine a situation where u are working in a company which offers u more money and a routine 9-5 job. another company offers u less money, but u can use ur creativity there. Where wud u go and why?Me: Told. (went with 1st option)
  • M: Another situation, where u are doing a project with a team of 10, and they downsize the team to 3 members, and u are told u will still be in it,among the 3. wud u still continue with the project, or Go for a new one with the others?Me: chose 1st option, cuz I like to finish what I start.\
  • M: Suppose u are working in a project where u have no idea how 2 do it, cuz u dont know much about it. ur seniors wont help u at all. what do u do? Option 1: Have tea and food and stick with seniors and keep asking for help on the topic? option 2: try 2 work it on ur own, doing research on it? option 3: go to team leader and say,u cant work like this and ask for a new project?Me: option 2. if it doesnt work, option1... and if still that doesnt work, then no choice but option 3.
  • M: what is today's rate of sensex? or BSE/NSE?ME: Sir, I dont know.
  • M:Dont u read newspapers?Me: Sir, I've been waiting and preparing  for this moment, right here, right now for a long time. I do read newspapers but just not for the past few days.

  • M: Can u offer any solution which might help in overcoming this recession?ME: told.
  • T: Explain ur project in brief and draw its ER diagram.ME: Told. (Thankfully, no additional Questions were asked from the project!)

  • HR : (Asked questions from  my hobbies - photography, Blogging and about the scholarships and  numerous extracurricular certificates I had mentioned on my CV)
  • HR: Ur sister is highly educated as I see. Dont u wish to study furthur after B.Tech?Me: My sister and I are quite the opposite... she hates to work and I hate to study :P I have been learning only for past 16yrs and i feel its the right time to put into good use.
  • HR: Why TCS? Why not any other company?Me: Told ( I had done my homework on TCS) :P
  •  HR: If someday u feel TCS is not being enough and u wish to join some other company, what reason wud u have to stay with us?Me : The money I earn from TCS is always important, but whats more important is the knowledge and experience I gain from here. When I hear of a company and its employees, theres  only the names of few top hardworking employees that come to my mind, and I wish to be one of those for TCS someday...

At last, after a gruesome 50 mins, interview was over. I shook hands with all 3 panel members and left the room.
Some tips and tricks :

  • Always have a smile on ur face, even while answering I dont know. HR checks ur body movements and how nervous u get when u dont know the answer.
  • Firm Handshakes at the start and end are optional, but always a good gesture.
  • Wait for the HR to finish their questions, and don't try to cut in between. wait for 1-2 secs, frame the answer in your mind, and answer in a medium, but confidant and audible voice.
  • Avoid looking here and there while thinking an answer. best to always keep looking straight in their eyes. They will know u are confidant.
  • Frame ur answers wisely. dont use terms in ur answers u dont know about, cuz most HRs have tendency 2 ask Qs from ur answer. I was setting bait by using only  terms i know in my answers, and in a way, was able to manipulate the HR in2 askin questions from my strengths and away from my weaknesses.
  • If ur from IT/CSE/ECE, know ur C/Java concepts and programs well. I was very  lucky not 2 have been asked from my subjects Software engg/Data Structure/C/DBMS at all, but most were asked from everywhere. So its best to prepare the subjects u r writing on ur CV well, cuz it is difficult to fool the HR, and they will know eventually, how much u know from each subject. So start preparing atleast C/Java well b4 going for interview.
  • Be calm and confidant, no matter how ugly questions become, cuz they notice ur every movement. "I dont know" is the best answer if u dont know anything about the answer at all, but dont lose hope no matter how many I dont knows u say. If u know atleast something about the answer, say it.
  • MR questions are always tricky, so answer them very wisely and think b4 u do. they try to found out ur nature of working and whether u'll stick with the company or run away later on 2 another 1,or go for higher studies. theres NO right answer to the MR questions, its all upto u how u justify ur answer.
  • Prepare "Tell me something about your yourself" b4 u go for the interview. The About me must be  smart and stylish, not ur plain intro,as that stuff is already written on ur CV, and "About me" makes the 1st impression on the panel.
  • Be positive in each and every answer. avoid saying anything negative about urself, ur college, the company or anybody at all. even questions like "5 bad things about u" shud be ended in a postive note, like i am overambitious, but i try my best to achieve my goals,or i get a little stressed with excess work, but i have overcome that with yoga exercises or sumthin like that...

I hope these tips and tricks i picked up while the interview helps some of u... :) All the very best :)
